Message from our Principal
Hello Families,
Welcome to the Lahontan Elementary School (LES). After five years of being principal at LES, I am excited to continue committing to offering a challenging and supportive school program for all of our Kindergarten and First Grade students.
I believe that all children need "people skills" to thrive peacefully and productively in today's world. I know that all children can learn, and our students can excel academically in all areas. Reading, writing, and arithmetic are important at LES. We have goals to improve student achievement in literacy and math and to increase the family's involvement in their child's education, while at the same time encouraging creativity, curiosity, and life-long appreciation for learning. The staff is enthusiastic about learning and have built a community of learners at our school.
Here are just a few of our activities/programs we provide throughout the year:
- Pupbucks - Coupons are given to students who follow our school motto: Responsible, Respectful, and Safe. Names are weekly for recognition as well as students buying items at the Pupbuck Store.
- Pack Bucks – Each class can earn Pack Bucks by any staff member for following the school expectations. Each class is recognized at the end of each month depending on the number of Pack Bucks they receive.
- Student of the Month – Each month teachers nominate a student who has been a role model, made improvements, follows expectations, completes work, and/or is kind to all. Students are recognized at the end of each month and the group picture is placed in the hall.
- Family Nights: LES holds a variety of different evening events for families such as Book Fair, Game Night, Family Activity Night, Spring Fling, and more.
One of the most important components of a good school is the partnership between the school and the parents who work together for the best interest of children. Our goal is to enhance the close partnership between home and school. That partnership between home and school will emerge as one of the exceptional strengths at Lahontan.
Parents can join our parent group, volunteer in the classroom, help at book fairs, participate in family activity nights, read to their children, and help in many other ways. It is important to your child that you are involved in some way at school. It’s a way to let your child know you think his or her school is important. A friendly, working relationship with your child's teacher is supported and encouraged at Lahontan. Education is a partnership that includes you.
Lastly, as families and schools establish routines for the school year, it is helpful to keep in mind that childhood is a special time of learning, exploration, and growth. Children need to be provided free time to explore their world and experience the joy of discovery ... play is important too!
School and home can work together to build skills and knowledge, reinforce values, and develop a strong sense of self-worth. We must invest our time and energies in our nation’s most valuable resource - our children.
Please feel free to call if you ever have questions, concerns, or compliments.
